Sheila Smyth graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance, pursuing further studies with Burton Kaplan in New York. She currently performs with various ensembles and orchestras in Toronto and southwestern Ontario on violin, viola, and treble viola da gamba. She is principal violist of Opera York and Nota Bene Period Orchestra, and assistant principal violist of the Talisker Players. She is a founding member of the Montgomery Consort of Viols and this season will also be performing in Toronto's Scaramella series as both a gambist and violist. She has recently performed and recorded with the Aradia Ensemble for Naxos Records and has been heard with the Emperor Quartet in performance on CBC radio and CFMX.
