Evan
Plommer, Bass Lute
While
studying guitar in his early teens, Evan Plommer's teacher, Bob Eby introduced
him to several transcriptions of 16th Century lute music. Fortuitously, it was
around this time that his friend, Grant Tomlinson introduced him to a real lute.
In 1980 Plommer went to study lute with Nigel North in London, and also has had
invaluable help over the years from Ray Nurse, Hopkinson Smith, Carlo Novi,
and Paul O'dette. A few of the many people and groups Plommer has played with
are: The Cecelian Ensemble (with Susie Napper and Carlo Novi), The Studio de
musique ancienne de Montreal, The CBC Vancouver Orchestra (with Stanley Ritchie
and Paul Elliot), The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and, has done many recitals
both solo and in ensemble for Early Music Vancouver. Since moving to Ontario last year he also had the pleasure of playing with
The International Symphony Orchestra in Port
Huron, and, at the Bach Festival in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
