Bethany
Cencer, harpsichordist, is
a doctoral student at SUNY Stony Brook double-majoring in
harpsichord and musicology/theory. She regularly performs with
the Stony Brook Baroque Players under Arthur Haas. Ms. Cencer
received her BM in early-music musicology and MM in
keyboard-instrument performance from the University of Michigan,
where she studied harpsichord with Ed Parmentier, fortepiano with
Penelope Crawford, and piano with Douglas Humphreys and Katherine
Collier. She has served as both president and publicity chair of the
nonprofit Ann Arbor Academy of Early Music. Ms. Cencer is a
passionate teacher as well as performer. Her article "The
music teacher as coach...: empowering students to realize their inner
potential" was recently published in American
Music Teacher
magazine.
